Story of Dhrishtadyumn
Drishtadyumn, son of King Drupad, was born from the sacrificial fire and shone with the brilliance of flames. Though he became a disciple of Dronacharya, fate destined him to be Dronacharya’s slayer. In the Kurukshetr war, Bheem killed an elephant named Ashwatthama, and together with Yudhishthir spread the word that “Ashwatthama is dead.” Believing his son had perished, Dronacharya cast aside his weapons in grief, whereupon Drishtadyumn killed him. Later, in the night massacre after the war, Drishtadyumn was slain by Ashwatthama.
